The Indian smartphone market has seen an upsurge in the number of smartphone releases in the past year or so. Amongst the phone brands whose smartphones have released during this period are Karbonn, Lava, and Micromax.
At the same time, there is a great deal of hype surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S4 and its numerous features. Do these Indian smartphone devices stand a chance against the Samsung Galaxy S4? Let’s take a look at these smartphone devices, created by five major Indian flagships, and see if they’re ready to compete against the S4.
Karbonn Titanium S9
The Karbonn Titanium S9 is a smartphone launched recently by the company. Does it look set to compete against the S4 in the Indian market?
This device comes loaded with a quad-core processor, while the S4 comes with an octa-core processor; but the clock speed on both devices is the same, i.e. 1.2GHz. Additionally, both Titanium S9 and Samsung Galaxy S4 have a 13MP rear camera for taking high quality photos.
The Titanium S9 comes with a powerful 5MP front camera for video calling, while the S4 has a 2MP front camera. The screen size on the Karbonn device is 5.5 inches, slightly larger than the 5-inch S4 screen.

Most importantly, the Karbonn Titanium S9 is loaded with the same version of the Android OS as the S4, v4.2 Jelly Bean. In both devices, the battery capacity is 2600mAh, which is excellent for those who travel a lot. Both devices have 16GB internal memory; however, the memory on S4 can be increased to 64 GB, while that on the Titanium S9 can be increased only up to 32GB. The S4 has a 2GB RAM, while the Titanium S9 has a 1GB RAM.
Both Titanium S9 and Samsung Galaxy S4 exert their authority over the other in some specifications. It’s then quite safe to say that Titanium S9 is a strong contender against the Samsung Galaxy S4.
Micromax Canvas 4 A210
The Micromax Canvas 4 A210 is another strong contender for the S4. Unlike the S4, this phone is sturdy, thanks to its sleek body made of aluminium. The S4, on the other hand, comes with a plastic casing.
Both devices feature a 13MP rear camera; however, when it comes to front cameras, the S4 and the Canvas 4 A210 offer 2MP and 5MP resolution respectively. Both smartphones come loaded with version 4.2 of the Android OS

In terms of performance and speed, the S4, with a 1.6GHz quad-core processor, has a higher clock speed than the A210, which has a single quad-core processor with a clock speed of 1.2GHz.
The internal memory on the Micromax Canvas A210 is 10GB, while the S4 comes with 16GB of storage capacity. The Micromax Canvas A210 price in India is INR 17499, a very moderate price in comparison to the S4, which is priced at INR 46, 000.
Xolo Q1000S
The Xolo Q1000S is another smartphone device that offers stunning features, almost at par with the S4. This device has an impressive design that offers a smooth user interface. Both the S4 and Xolo Q1000S have a 13MP camera. The secondary camera on the Xolo device is 5MP, higher than that on the S4.

The Xolo Q1000S has a 2500mAh battery, which is lesser in capacity when compared with the S4; however, it offers more talktime and standby time, offering 22 hours of talktime with 2G, 12 hours with 3G, a standby time of 327 hours with 2G, and 425 hours with 3G. The RAM on the Xolo device is 1GB, and the 16GB internal memory is the same as that on the S4. It also comes with a very powerful quad-core processor, with a clock speed of 1.5GHz.
The Xolo Q1000S is definitely a tough match for the Galaxy S4 in the Indian market.
Canvas Doodle 2 A240
The Canvas Doodle 2 A240 is another top-notch device that offers features similar to that on the Galaxy S4. It comes with a stylus and a 5.7-inch screen, much larger than the Galaxy S4 screen. It’s powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, which is similar to the S4’s processor. It comes with a stunning 12MP camera with auto-focus. This rear camera also has an LED flash, which is suitable for photographers.

One of the highlights of the A240 is its “Look Away” feature. This automatically pauses the video that’s currently being played when the user looks away from the screen. This feature is also present in the Galaxy S4. The Micromax 2 A240 also comes with the “Blow/Shake to Unlock” feature, which helps to unlock the device by simply blowing air on the screen, a feature also available on the S4.
It can be said that the Canvas Doodle 2 A240 is nearly at par with the S4.
XOLO Play
XOLO Play is a stunning device that is set to take on the Samsung Galaxy S4. It has a screen size of 4.7 inches, nearly the same as that on the S4. It is one of the best bets for gamers too, as it comes loaded with a 1.5GHz NVIDIA Tegra quad-core processor, along with a 5th battery-saver core.
Additionally, the graphic card on the XOLO Play is the 12-core Nvidia ULP GeForce, which supports 82 million triangles a second at the rate of 416MHz. The XOLO Play is priced reasonably at INR 13, 000.
This device also utilizes the Nvidia PRISM Display Technology, which helps to boost pixel color, while decreasing the consumption of screen backlight power. This helps users achieve the same picture quality without excess power consumption.
XOLO Play also comes loaded with a 2000mAh battery, which is capable of providing 9 hours of talktime using 3G and 413 hours of standby time.
After surveying these top-notch Indian smartphone devices, it is quite clear that the Samsung Galaxy S4 has a great deal of competition in the Indian subcontinent. Most of these smartphones are available under INR 20, 000, while the Samsung Galaxy S4 costs approximately INR 46, 000.
