If you use WordPress to run your blog, you'll quickly find out that premium WordPress themes make it very easy for you to include links in your posts. This is a great feature. In fact, it's one of the most valuable features out there for search engine optimization purposes. Make sure you go through the following quality control process before you put a link on your site, however.

It's Not Fake

Visit the link a few days after you put it up and make sure that it still leads to where it led when you put it there. There are nefarious individuals out there who will provide you with a link that has what appears to be interesting content on it but who will change out that link to lead to a spam page shortly after providing it for you. You're probably not the only blogger they're doing this to if it happens to you. Check your links once in a while. Make sure you're not sending someone to a site that may harm their computer.

It's Useful

It can be very easy to become friends with other bloggers and want to help them out however you can. If they start asking you to put up links that really aren't related to your blog, however, you have to learn how to say no in a nice way. If you keep putting links up that aren't related to your content, you're going to find that your website quickly turns into a spam page. If you're presented with a link that you don't think relates, ask them if they have something that's more relevant to the topic you're talking about.

It's Not a Redirect

Some links actually redirect you to a different site than you think you're going to. These are very bad things to have on your blog. Essentially, it's like telling someone you're giving them a ride to the airport and dropping them off at a convenience store. It's deceptive, inconvenient for the user and, sometimes, it provides a vector for viruses and other malicious software.

Remember to be careful with the links that you put up on your site. Check the site that they lead to thoroughly. Make sure that you're comfortable with the content that is posted and that it is of a high quality. Make certain that there isn't anything on the site that would be offensive to your readers or that would introduce some sort of competition for you businesswise.
